APPLICATION ENGINEER – PROCESS GAS BASED SCOTLAND

Based in Cumbernauld, ESS’s client is a highly successful organisation, part of a leading global technology company. They are at the forefront of the design and manufacture of next generation measurement and instrumentation equipment, such as Gas Analysis products, including Gas Chromatographs, Process Gas Analysers, and Laser Gas Analysers. Their equipment is found in a range of industrial settings and applications from Natural Gas, Chemical, Refining, and Power, to hybrid industries such as Food & Beverage, Aerosol, and Life Science. They now need to hire an Applications and Senior Applications Engineer. Reporting into the Director of Applications Engineering, the Application Engineer will play a key role supporting the Sales and Service teams advising end user clients on equipment capability. You will conduct pre-sales and customer applications meetings. Internally, you are the “voice of the customer” turning new orders into manufactured products in a timely fashion.
You will define, prepare and execute product field tests. Key responsibilities include:
In all cases you are familiar with process gas analysis served end-markets - Chemical, Refining, Power, Emissions Monitoring requirements and applications. Candidates should have worked with process gas analysis measurement technologies and spectroscopy, (Mass Spectrometer, Gas Chromatographs, Infrared & Ultraviolet Photometry, Thermal Conductivity, Paramagnetism, Chemiluminescence, Electrochemical, and Flame Ionization).

You will define, prepare and execute product field tests. Key responsibilities include:
- Support pre-sales commercial and technical evaluation process. Review of complex measurement requests, clarifying technical questions, providing go / no go decisions.
- Provide technical specifications and work ups for complex analyser quotations.
- Assist Operations and Service with difficult applications (e.g. dangerous gases, special measurements) and debug of analysers.
- Configure analysers to customer requirements, carrying out lab testing as required.
- Perform measurements to determine specifications for new components/parts and prototype analysers.
- Record, analyse and interpret results from analyser tests (prototype, new methods, production, field trials).
- Provide post sales technical support for customers and service engineers.
- Conduct application training for technicians, service and sales engineers (measurement principles and new applications).
