ELECTRICAL CONTROLS AND INSTRUMENTATION LEADER

ESS Recruit is proud to be supporting The North British Distillery Company (NBD) to recruit an Electrical Controls and Instrumentation (ECI) Leader for their advanced warehousing facility in West Lothian. NBD has a proud history of manufacturing and supplying blended whisky grain spirit going back to 1885. The company can now boast the supply of some premium whisky brands as key clients and is selling grain spirit by-products into a range of other sectors and products.
Reporting into the Site Operations Manager, the ECI Leader will support and co-ordinate an electrical team to work together safely and efficiently to maintain and upgrade electrical, controls and instrumentation equipment at a top tier COMAH maturation warehouse site. The ECI Leader will take responsibility for a range of electrical controls, instrumentation and automation projects across the site, using both in-house and external support, to improve the “as is” position to a future “to be” state. The role offers both an excellent blend of hands on technical responsibility and authority with strategic engineering project management and planning. Key responsibilities include:
This is a unique opportunity for a highly ambitious, competent and technical senior / principle ECI engineer or existing hands-on electrical controls and instrumentation leader or manager to take site wide responsibility. You will be educated to degree calibre in a technical discipline. The relevant candidate will need to have some experience of ECI engineering practice in a COMAH site or Hazops environment. We would be especially keen to hear from candidates who have worked directly or indirectly in petrochemicals, FMCG/drink, pharmaceutical or other COMPEX / COMAH companies. This role will suit aspiring new leaders but ideally you have led small teams, projects and/or mentored and coached junior employees.

- Maintaining an awareness of the regulatory and Company standards that apply to the role such as HMRC, COMAH and H&S.
- Line management responsibilities for the electrical team including monitoring progress through annual performance reviews and daily targets.
- General planned and reactive maintenance inspections and repairs.
- ATEX equipment inspections and repairs of around 5500 assets.
- Continually analyse current control philosophies and processes to identify opportunities to develop short, medium and long term plans.
- Resource management of all EC&I work and yearly budget allocation.
- Manage external specialist contractors to support with electrical associated on-site activities.
- Develop and implement a programme of works over the coming years to the upgrade the existing electrical, controls and instrumentation equipment.
- Provide strategic input into the overall Muirhall CAPEX programme.
