INSTRUMENT SCIENTIST (GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY)
BASED LIVINGSTON (HYBRID WORKING) – SALARY EXCELLENT PLUS BENS
Based in Livingston, ESS Recruit’s client comprises of a group of European companies engaged in the design, development, manufacture and distribution of analytical systems, life science equipment and laboratory instruments with operations dating back to 1920. They design, develop, supply and support Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry product lines for a range of markets including forensics, food quality, environmental, pharma and life sciences. The company maintains a global infrastructure to support sales around the world and they currently need to recruit a Scientist / Project Manager with a focus on Gas Chromatography.
The Instrument Scientist – GC will work as part of the highly ambitious and skilled R&D team. Key responsibilities include:

The Instrument Scientist – GC will work as part of the highly ambitious and skilled R&D team. Key responsibilities include:
- Building in depth knowledge of the GC product lines.
- Planning and executing R&D projects from concept through to product release.
- Delivering projects on time and within a budget.
- Managing project work and effort across a multi-discipline engineering team.
- Engaging all key stakeholders, including external suppliers.
- Occasional travel within the UK and abroad, including to the facilities in The Netherlands
- Degree or higher in a Physical Science (Chemistry. Physics etc).
- Strong scientific and technical background, perhaps with some experience developing scientific instrumentation.
- An understanding on the fundamental theoretical principles of scientific analytical instrumentation.
- Hands on experience with operating and/or testing scientific instrumentation.
- Ideally some involvement within a project-based environment, with some project management experience.
- Experience of working within multi-discipline teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including writing of technical documentation.
- Ability to concisely summarise work into monthly updates to the R&D Manager.
